Fernie Alpine Resort
Fernie Alpine Resort (1-877-333-2339) is a short drive from town. This World Snow Awards ‘Best North America Resort (2012)’ is known for its 11.5-m/38-ft annual snowfall and ski-to-your-door lodging. Its 2,500 acres boast 1,082 vertical m/3,550 ft, 10 lifts (with two high-speed quads) and five powder bowls that are now easier to access via above-treeline Polar Peak lift. There is a stellar Elk Valley view (plus sightings of Alberta and Montana peaks beyond), free mountain tours, night-lit slopes Fri., Sat. and holidays, and zipline thrills.
In the summer Fernie Alpine Resort operates the Timber Express Chairlift that travels up the mountain to spectacular Elk Valley views, hiking trails, Lost Boys Café and an aerial playground with a rippin’ zipline. From the top, biking options include cross-country, downhill, single track and dual slalom trails; bike rentals are offered.
