Fernie Alpine Resort
Fernie Alpine Resort, 1-877-333-2339, is a short drive from town. This resort won the 2012 World Snow Awards “Best North America Resort” and is known for its 11.5 m / 38 ft annual snowfall and ski-to-your-door lodging. Its boasts 2,500 acres of terrain with a vertical rise of 1,082 m / 3,550 ft. 10 lifts with two high-speed quads access five powder bowls. The above-treeline Polar Peak makes terrain easier to access. There are stellar views of Elk Valley in addition to sightseeing opportunities of Alberta and Montana peaks. The resort offers mountain tours, night-lit slopes on Friday, Saturday and holidays, as well as summer zipline thrills.
In the summer, Fernie Alpine Resort operates the Timber Express Chairlift, which travels up the mountain for access to spectacular Elk Valley views in addition to hiking trails, the Lost Boys Café and an aerial playground that includes a rippin’ zipline. From the top, biking options include cross-country, downhill, single track and dual slalom trails. Bike rentals available at the resort.
